Freerice.com - Feed the hunger

Feeling guilty about wasting your time playing online games? Now, let us introduce to you a guilt-free game that does not only satisfy your gaming needs but also helps to feed the hunger.

Freerice.com donates rice to starving people worldwide every-time you guess the correct meaning of a random word. Not only do you learn, but you also feed someone who desperately needs it.

FreeRice is the brainchild of John Breen, founder of Poverty.com and TheHungerSite.com. The concept here is ridiculously simple:

1. You answer multiple choice questions that test your vocabulary

2.Advertisers pay FreeRice to place ads on the web pages alongside the questions

3. The advertisers’ money pays for the rice

4. The more questions you answer—and the more ads you eyeball—the more rice you’re able donate

Unlike most other charities, you don’t have to spend any money in order to help alleviate hunger. All you need is your brilliant vocabulary (or online dictionary...hehe...)
WARNING: This game may make you smarter. It may improve your speaking, writing, thinking, grades, job performance...

Turns out FreeRice’s creators aren’t sitting on a pile of rice counting out the grains each time you get an answer right. Instead, FreeRice gives the money it gets from advertisers to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), which in turn uses the cash to buy rice for the needy in impoverished areas.

Since it’s launched, FreeRice has donated 2,840,667,010 of them, which is 130,470 pounds of rice.
We encourage you to visit the site and help the starving children in the world.
Here is a challenge to you .
Go to Freerice.com, play the game and tell us how many grains of rice you have donated in the comments below.
EXTRA: Check out how Freerice being distributed.

Hello hairstylist!

Hello hairstylist! is a charity project to raise fund as a part of Young Mercy subject requirement. Anuar(YM2) and I, Afizy (YM1) gave away the opportunity to cut our hair to all CUCMS student as well as lecturer (who were so eager to cut our hair for a long time!) and staff.

Every cut cost the person RM2. The idea came to me when I was thinking of how I can raise fund without any expenses. Thus, I came with this wild idea which is creative and never been done before in CUCMS.

At the end of the day, both of us went bald and we were given the name BO & TAK. Sounds funny right but then we were satisfied because we manage to collect RM112 which is very impressive I suppose. All the money will be donated to the Young Mercy. Anuar and I were very proud of ourselves. Everyone enjoyed cutting our hair.

Notice the difference in their smile...before and after?

Note: To members of YM1, YM2 would like to thank you guys for your collaboration. Together, we can make the world a better place. =)

It's time for SPRING CLEANING

We mentioned about our recycling project in a previous post and the response was good but we need more support from our fellow CUCMS students and staff.

You know it is time to clear up the trash from your room when there are more empty bottles and cans than your books or when you are having a hard time finding your car keys under the piles of papers on your desk. So, use your free time to clean and bring the recyclable products to college.

If you are not from CUCMS, please contact Victor Lim at 016-3408117.

All profits will go to our future projects to help those in need.

NOTE: To those who want to volunteer in this programme, please email ym2cucms@yahoo.com
